MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Jesus Piedad Fernandez as the new chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) revealed on Thursday.
In a statement, the DILG said Fernandez was designated to the post last April 11 and will lead the modernization efforts of the BFP.

“Prior to his appointment, Fernandez was designated by (DILG) Secretary (Jonvic) Remulla as officer-in-charge of the BFP following the mandatory retirement of former Fire Chief Louie Puracan last December 2024,” the statement read.
Fernandez served as the BFP director for logistics in 2016 and assumed the role of director for comptrollership the following year.
He also held the position of Region 4A director for two years before becoming the chief directorial staff and acting deputy chief for administration in 2022.
Fernandez is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy “Sandigan” Class of 1994 and has handled various offices in Region 2 and the National Capital Region.

He was also the city fire marshal of Tuguegarao and the district fire marshal of Quezon City.
